Oscars 2020. An event valued almost 50M of euros on Social Media

The Oscars 2020 ceremony took place in Los Angeles on the 9th of February. This year Academy Awards registered a new record with the win of the multi-awarded "Parasite" by the South-Korean Bong Joon-Ho: the first not-English movie winning the "Best Picture" category. The ceremony and the red carpet, fulfilled by celebrities, are always one of the most media-driven events of the years. Here you can read what the Oscars 2020 generated on Social Media.

The Oscars 2020 results on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter

For this analysis, DMR Group experts monitored official hashtags, from February 8th to 10th, on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. The Oscars 2020 gained 11K total posts, over 1.5 billion of Reach, and €49.7M of Earned Media Value. Twitter was the platform with the most significant number of content - 5780 vs. 4362 on Instagram and 859 on Facebook - but Instagram offered the highest value, almost €41.M.

Looking at the content authors, Media and Journalists generated 81.5% equivalent to 40.5% of the total EMV. In the second place, there were Celebrities and Influencers, with 8.5% of the posts and 31.3% of the value. Brands followed at 3.4% of the content and 22.3% of the EMV. The top Media post was the one by Vanity Fair US on Instagram, dedicated to Natalie Portman and her outfit. This picture gained a Reach of 4,996,029 and more than €162K of value.

Among celebrities, Kim Kardashian came first by EMV: almost €3M and 89,847,053 of Reach with only two posts. She also made the top post on Instagram that reached alone €1.8M. In the second place, there was Priyanka Chopra, who generated €2.1M of value with 7 posts, followed, in the third position, by Salma Hayek, posting 10 times for almost €625K of total EMV. The Indian actress and singer, Nick Jonas' wife, also made the top post on Facebook - €556K of EMV and 17,428,948 of Reach - and the top Tweet - €267K of value with a Reach of 8,212,868.

This edition was also accompanied by a lot of disputes due to the lack of women in the "Best Direction" category, first among all Greta Gerwig, directing a new version of "Little Women" with her contemporary approach. However, as confirmed by these results, women ruled the red carpet and Social Media.
